Sultry In May…The ceiling fans are a brown swirl down,
Windows open breeze rush through the house,
TV droning lazing on the big plush green couch,
Cats are panting off in their curled up spots.
Outside it’s shirtsleeves and sparkling stars,
Flowers in the dark and leaves on the trees,
A hint of rain scent like a held-back promise in the air,
The grass is creeping ‘round my ankles awaiting a fresh mow.
Cigar lighting and stereo tuning,
Thinking of saxophone riffs as I drive off to work,
Truck window partly down,
Reveling in summer’s preview.
One could fall in love with these sultry nights in May.
