The Last Watermelon...

The Last Watermelon...
Thirst quenched in liquid Summer,
A splash of hot pink and lush green,
Sweet saint of Summer picnics,
Give me one more while the days are hot,
Before the music stops in the high corn,
While the leaves are still green and skies are blue,
While I can still swim in a lake,
See a dandelion that tickles my toes in the grass,
Taste the bounty of the Earth and wonder at our luck,
Before a hint of fire or gold on leaves starts the end of another year.
