Corn Maize...

Corn Maize...

It happens at the farm just down the road,
You can defeat a dragon or kraken,
Meet up with Lincoln,
Even watch mama and baby mastodon.

The corn is tall and not yet yellow this year,
Near nine feet and dense as can be,
No peeking through - only hints,
Flashes of a jacket or cap glimpsed through the leaves.

The orange T-shirts guide and guard,
Young sages of the maize,
They change the color every year,
In case some mischievous clown bought one last year.

In the spring the tractors plant by G.P.S. light,
Setting the seeds of autumn delights,
September is the green month - could be muddy,
October brings a maize of gold - last warm sunlight.

We walk between the stalks,
Twisting maps this way and that,
Follow the black lines to punch each check point,
Wondering if we will get cheese for all this.
