Running The Rock

Times, places to remember,
Never forgetful, not ever.
Steve Jackson and I had a wild ride,
And I tell the tale with pride.

I wonder if Lewis & Clark had as much fun.

Start off the day in Janesville with Mom's canoe,
A 20 mile run with nothing better to do.
Rock river current runs south here,
We took it in stride, water, paddles, and beer.

Carry the boat around three dams.

Riding on the water all day,
Paddling this and that way,
Laughing as we dodged wakes,
Exertions with paddles for goodness sakes.

The orange canoe our friend today.

Tree lined river with water slightly green,
Sunshine, river smell, breezes, boaters scene.
Exploring the branches, running with the river current,
End up at Riverside Park in Beloit, the whole day spent.

Tie the end of the canoe to a roller-skate.

It's a time to remember,

Running the Rock

1982, and a well spent day. One of those spur of the moment adventures, a memory remembered throughout a lifetime.

I rode the rapids once in a dug-out tree trunk canoe on the Pagjansan River in The Philipines. We were on the river all day and it's a ride I'll never forget. Your poem reminded me of this wonderful experience I had. Thanks for reminding me Dan. A great poem!
