Red Desert Floodgates
Now they've gone and done it!
The magicians and diviners have found water in the Red Desert,
And they are jumping for joy in the control room as they plan to insert,
Every probe they can muster, even an astronautical muster,
Into orbit around the Red Desert with such alien luster.
The ancient Red God of war.
Twinkling like a bloody red jewel in the distant night,
Searching for signs in it's spectral light,
Searching for life in rocks blown across the ebon gulf,
And crafting electronic golems sniffing rocks with a better nose than a wolf.
There be water there!
The crystalline liquid magic of life, hiding under the flowing red dunes.
Surprises that lend credence to disbelieved dreams.
Perhaps those ancient canals belonging to Lowell will be,
Crafted by the future explorers in hardsuits expanding the tree.
The tree of life, that is.
There's Water in them there hills!
In a case such as this, it's better than golds' thrills.
Life is possible beyond where it now grows,
Maybe someday we'll ski on Martian snows.
The future is grander than we can imagine.

The recent announcement by NASA of the discovery of water on Mars has implications not even yet fully realized. The future is coming. It will be a grand vision indeed. If we but let it. My congratulations to the teams that have made this possible.

Wow Dan, I can still hear you yelling... there's water in those hills! It's such an up-lifting and exciting poem. I love it! I'm going to Mars...true! Did you see that at my web site?...haha. |
