Crisp White Drifting:

Winter's been missing lately,
The Snow Goddess reserving her strength,
As relentless the heat of Father Sun has held sway,
Even when it really should be her day,
But this year, last of a thousand,
She comes forth in shining white marching order,
Costumed in decorative window pane frost patterns,
Drifting white hair streaming over the chilled land,
Crystals tiny and endlessly abundant dance in the wind,
As she laughs in tune to piled up drifts and children playing,
Her eyes sometimes gray, sometimes blue,
And on shining nights, full of starlight, too.
Trees bare their faces to her touch,
Yes, excepting the haughty pine family,
The only nobles in court still allowed green in her presence,
And her throne of blue ice floats above the Arctic Sea,
As she directs her knight Jack Frost to paint windows,
Murals of her jewelry in endless fashion.
Even chimney smoke must bow in deference to her glory,
And we folk of the world, we miss her purpose on Earth,
The true nature of her reign and it's beneficial design,
Yes, she who sends lovers to cradle in the warmth of home,
Makes us spend time by the hearth and stops the call to labor,
She gifts us with unexpected loving time,
Brings conception in her renewal rites,
And hands over the keys of birth to Lady Spring,
And yet we see her as the death of Green,
Stark beauty sterile, chill, serene and lonely.
Her coin is stamped on two sides,
Life and death both begin under her sway,
And she performs her mission dutifully,
Wrapped up in her robes crisp, white, and drifting.

Reflections on the many aspects of this season, Both the troubles and the blessings. It's a wonderful time of year when viewed in a certain light. The warm light of home.
