The Daydream Deficit..

The Daydream Deficit..

We were told,
Children,
To focus on the here-and-now,
Sit up! Pay attention!

It was punished and ridiculed into us,
Practicality enforced with a social baseball bat,
We got it so well,
Dreamless to our bones.

Is it any wonder then,
We drug the daydreams out of our children,
Run a chronic national sleep deficit,
Rule our exhausted world with an iron fist?

Was the human need to dream and imagine so dangerous,
That we abhor it to the point of our own collapse?

It's known by psychologists,
Humans laugh at things that cause them social tension.

Is this why it's so hysterical,
When I dream of a world built on love?
